{"id":10633,"date":"2015-04-06T09:28:44","date_gmt":"2015-04-05T23:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/?p=10633"},"modified":"2015-04-05T23:00:58","modified_gmt":"2015-04-05T13:00:58","slug":"shane-van-gisbergen-doing-it-differently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2015\/04\/shane-van-gisbergen-doing-it-differently\/","title":{"rendered":"Shane Van Gisbergen &#8211; Doing It Differently"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Honestly, this probably isn&#8217;t that big of a deal, but in finally catching up with last weekend&#8217;s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Symmons_Plains_Raceway\">Symmons Plains<\/a> round of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/v8supercars.com.au\/\">V8 Supercars<\/a> Championship &#8211; (I was unable to watch it live on the day) &#8211; I noticed something really interesting.<\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"450\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td align=\"center\" width=\"450\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B1O4ChHM4jE\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>Notice how <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shane_Van_Gisbergen\">Shane Van Gisbergen<\/a> does some of his downshifts with the back of his hand, instead of the more usual full hand grip on the shifter?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s interesting because SVG is known for his excellent car control, particularly in wet conditions &#8211; I can only surmise that he does this to keep both hands on the wheel for longer.
