{"id":3744,"date":"2011-08-30T09:29:36","date_gmt":"2011-08-29T23:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/?p=3744"},"modified":"2011-08-30T09:29:36","modified_gmt":"2011-08-29T23:29:36","slug":"the-forgotten-bathurst-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2011\/08\/the-forgotten-bathurst-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"The Forgotten Bathurst Winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the V8 Supercar endurance races approaching, I thought I would step back and have a look at some of the little known history of Bathurst.<\/p>\n<p>A history that will always record that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Brock\">Peter Brock<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Larry_Perkins\">Larry Perkins<\/a> won the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bathurst_1000\">Bathurst 1000<\/a> three times in succession in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1982_James_Hardie_1000\">1982<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1983_James_Hardie_1000\">1983<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1984_James_Hardie_1000\">1984<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is little known is that between their 1982 and 1983 triumphs, someone else won at Bathurst.<\/p>\n<p>Me.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Okay, so it was just me sitting in my father&#8217;s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Holden_HJ\">HJ Holden Kingswood<\/a> celebrating my &#8220;victory&#8221; on the start\/finish line on the way home from a family trip to Sydney in 1983.<\/p>\n<p>But I still won.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the V8 Supercar endurance races approaching, I thought I would step back and have a look at some of the little known history of Bathurst.
