{"id":4150,"date":"2011-11-06T19:43:20","date_gmt":"2011-11-06T08:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/?p=4150"},"modified":"2011-11-06T19:43:20","modified_gmt":"2011-11-06T08:43:20","slug":"kyle-busch-dumb-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2011\/11\/kyle-busch-dumb-racing\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyle Busch: Dumb Racing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t watch a lot of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nascar.com\/\">NASCAR<\/a> &#8211; the difference in time zones between Australia&#8217;s east coast and the US usually lands the races on our TVs at around 4am.<\/p>\n<p>As I don&#8217;t watch a huge amount, I don&#8217;t know a huge amount about NASCAR.  However, one thing I have noticed is that in recent years whenever something controversial or dangerous happens, it seems to involve one man.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kyle_Busch\">Kyle Busch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is his latest effort:<\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"450\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td align=\"center\" width=\"450\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7tVWHGTA2xY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Busch was parked immediately in this race, and for the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>It actually reminds me of a similar incident that occurred in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.v8supercars.com.au\/\">V8 Supercars<\/a> in 2002 between Paul Romano and Rodney Forbes.  <\/p>\n<p>Forbes had punted Romano heading into Honda Corner at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phillip_Island_Grand_Prix_Circuit\">Phillip Island<\/a> in what appeared to be a fairly standard braking incident.  Romano however, took it into his own hands to &#8220;pay back&#8221; Forbes for the incident.<\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"450\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td align=\"center\" width=\"450\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xs9r3VzcJ7c\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>Romano&#8217;s penalty was 150 point championship points &#8211; certainly the largest I can remember before or since.  It also left him with the dubious honour of being the only driver in championship history to finish on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.natsoft.com.au\/cgi-bin\/results.cgi?01\/12\/2002.SAN.V8S.S\">negative points<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He made only a small handful of appearances in the series ever again.<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Busch might not be blown out of the NASCAR series just yet, but hot-headed revenge acts have no place in a sport like motor racing.<\/p>\n<p>Given the recent deaths of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dan_Wheldon\">Dan Wheldon<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marco_Simoncelli\">Marco Simoncelli<\/a>, safety should be first and foremost in everyone&#8217;s mind.<\/p>\n<p>And this was just dumb and dangerous &#8211; no matter however Busch wants to spin it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t watch a lot of NASCAR &#8211; the difference in time zones between Australia&#8217;s east coast and the US usually lands the races on our TVs at around 4am.
