In the US, there is the proposed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act\">Stop Online Piracy Act<\/a> (SOPA) to supposedly protect copyright holders from piracy.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>We are told it is the only way, that it will be completely successful, and that we must accept it for our own betterment.<\/p>\n<p>Really?<\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"80%\" cellpadding\t=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td class=\"linkbox\"><a class=\"linkboxtext\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.itnews.com.au\/News\/285170,firefox-add-on-circumvents-sopa-blocking.aspx\">Firefox Add-on Circumvents SOPA Blocking<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>That didn&#8217;t take long, did it?<\/p>\n<p>The problem is, these filtering schemes cost money.  Lots of money.<\/p>\n<p>Spending that is clearly pointless, because the &#8220;filtering&#8221; it is funding is trivially circumvented.<\/p>\n<p>Funds that could and should be used to hunt down the dirtbags producing the child pornography they are trying in vain to block, and save the children they are abusing.<\/p>\n<p>Protecting copyright holders is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/2011\/12\/screw-you-greedy-music-industry\/\">even easier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Infuriating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The powers that be, in their infinite wisdom, believe that the way to stop people from viewing and distributing the so-called &#8220;worst of the worst&#8221; or copyright protected material online is to legislate various forms of filtering mechanisms.
