{"id":5103,"date":"2012-03-14T12:26:44","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T01:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/?p=5103"},"modified":"2012-03-14T12:26:44","modified_gmt":"2012-03-14T01:26:44","slug":"call-to-arms-against-newport-rail-failures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2012\/03\/call-to-arms-against-newport-rail-failures\/","title":{"rendered":"Call To Arms Against Newport Rail Failures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Geelong&#8217;s  commuters &#8211; (and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metrotrains.com.au\/\">Metro Trains Melbourne&#8217;s<\/a> Werribee and Williamstown commuters) &#8211; have endured another bout of &#8220;Newport Induced Delays&#8221; in recent weeks, with numerous power failures and &#8220;track equipment failures&#8221; grinding these three train lines to a halt for hours at a time.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"80%\" cellpadding\t=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td class=\"linkbox\"><a class=\"linkboxtext\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.geelongadvertiser.com.au\/article\/2012\/03\/14\/312931_news.html\">V\/Line Commuters Want Answers After Latest Newport Failure<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>This problem has been going on for a long time &#8211; (I previously discussed this <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/2011\/01\/single-point-of-failure\/\">over a year ago<\/a>) &#8211; yet we are still regularly confronted with this rubbish, that should be avoidable if someone would actually take ownership of the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Ownership of the problem?  Yeah.  Right.<\/p>\n<p>I have contacted the Victorian Minister for Transport, Terry Mulder, asking about what is going on, and what is going to be done about it?<\/p>\n<p>I have already received the following reply from a staffer:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Thank you for your email addressed to the Hon Terry Mulder MP, Minister for Public Transport and Minister for Roads, concerning the above.   I wish to advise that a response will be forwarded in the near future.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Obviously a canned response, but it will be interesting to see the final &#8220;response&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Chances are it will be another fairly benign &#8220;we are working towards improving services for all Victorians&#8221; kind of response, but we&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, I call on all commuters to <a href=\"mailto:terence.mulder@parliament.vic.gov.au\">write and express your views towards Mr Mulder<\/a>, just so he understands the problems we are facing.<\/p>\n<p>Like a mosquito that keeps on biting, eventually they&#8217;ll have to stop and scratch the itch.<\/p>\n<p>So lets keep biting.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve had enough, right?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geelong&#8217;s commuters &#8211; (and Metro Trains Melbourne&#8217;s Werribee and Williamstown commuters) &#8211; have endured another bout of &#8220;Newport Induced Delays&#8221; in recent weeks, with numerous power failures and &#8220;track equipment failures&#8221; grinding these three train lines to a halt for hours at a time.
