{"id":589,"date":"2008-11-14T07:50:08","date_gmt":"2008-11-13T21:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/waitara.net\/2008\/11\/spam-down-between-35-and-75\/"},"modified":"2008-11-14T07:50:08","modified_gmt":"2008-11-13T21:50:08","slug":"spam-down-between-35-and-75","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2008\/11\/spam-down-between-35-and-75\/","title":{"rendered":"Spam Down Between 35% and 75%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Various news and internet security agencies are reporting between 35% and 75% of internet email spam has dropped over the last few days, after a rogue San Francisco\/Bay Area ISP, McColo, was disconnected from the internet by its upstream provider.<\/p>\n<p><center>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"80%\" cellpadding\t=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n  <tr>\n    <td class=\"linkbox\"><a class=\"linkboxtext\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/voices.washingtonpost.com\/securityfix\/2008\/11\/major_source_of_online_scams_a.html\">Major Source of Online Scams and Spams Knocked Offline<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/center>\n<\/p>\n<p>After reports of large amounts of suspicious traffic coming from its data centre, McColo had its internet access provisions terminated, resulting in the almost instantaneous drop in global spam traffic.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal level, I&#8217;ve noticed that the total amount of email traffic hitting my own mail server has dropped to almost zero.
