{"id":6679,"date":"2012-10-31T13:04:23","date_gmt":"2012-10-31T02:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelwyres.com\/?p=6679"},"modified":"2012-10-31T13:04:23","modified_gmt":"2012-10-31T02:04:23","slug":"upload-your-personal-important-documents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelwyres.com.au\/mwdc\/2012\/10\/upload-your-personal-important-documents\/","title":{"rendered":"Upload Your Personal &#8216;Important Documents&#8217;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the launch yesterday of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.auspost.com.au\/\">Australia Post&#8217;s<\/a> new &#8216;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com.au\/article\/440552\/australia_post_launches_its_digital_mailbox\/?fp=4&#038;fpid=18\">Digital Mailbox<\/a>&#8217;, I took particular interest in how the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dbcde.gov.au\/\">Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy<\/a> described how it can be used.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>From the ministerial <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.minister.dbcde.gov.au\/media\/media_releases\/2012\/171\">press release<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Use the Digital Mailbox as a personal digital vault to store important documents.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given Australia Post&#8217;s status as a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.finance.gov.au\/property\/gbe\/index.html\">government business enterprise<\/a>, and the government&#8217;s proposed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.efa.org.au\/category\/interception\/data-retention-interception\/\">data retention scheme<\/a>, would I be wanting to store my personal &#8216;important documents&#8217; under the auspices of what is ultimately a government entity?<\/p>\n<p>Given their current appetite for our personal information?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think I would be wanting to do that.<\/p>\n<p>I suggest nobody else should want to do that either.<\/p>\n<p>So don&#8217;t do that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the launch yesterday of Australia Post&#8217;s new &#8216;Digital Mailbox&#8217;, I took particular interest in how the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy described how it can be used.
