Honestly, this probably isn’t that big of a deal, but in finally catching up with last weekend’s Symmons Plains round of the V8 Supercars Championship – (I was unable to watch it live on the day) – I noticed something really interesting.
Notice how Shane Van Gisbergen does some of his downshifts with the back of his hand, instead of the more usual full hand grip on the shifter?
It’s interesting because SVG is known for his excellent car control, particularly in wet conditions – I can only surmise that he does this to keep both hands on the wheel for longer. I’ve never noticed him do this before, but there isn’t a lot of in-car footage of him driving, as his car hasn’t been a regular carrier of in-car cameras.
Just another thing that makes him unique – I’ll have to pay more attention to see if he does this all the time.
