Spam Decreasing?

This article suggests that spam on the internet might actually be decreasing. Running my own mail server, I get the chance to look at statistics as to how much mail I get, and how much appears to be spam.

Month to month, the amount of email passing through my server rises and falls, and while there is no definite trend in the terms of sheer volume, the percentage of “good” email versus “bad” email is about the same.

So while there are months where the spammers appear less active, overall, it’s still about the same percentage of all email, based on my own server’s statistics.

Incidentally, not a single piece of spam has hit my inbox in months – if you know how to filter properly, it’s achievable!

What If Facebook Never Dies?

There’s no doubt that Facebook is the “must have” Web2.0 application to have and be seen on at the moment, but has anyone considered what it might be like in 40 years from now, and we’re all still addicted to it?

Well, someone has put some thought into the Facebook of the future, and I think you’ll agree, it’s damn funny. Mainly because it’s extremely believable!

Todd Kelly Confirmed At JDR

In a release from Jack Daniel’s, one of the worst kept secrets in V8 Supercars has now been confirmed.

“It is with excitement and delight that we are announcing a significant development for the 2008 Jack Daniel’s Racing Team. We are very pleased to release to press today that leading Holden driver Todd Kelly has been signed on to head Jack Daniel’s Racing.”

“Todd is a remarkable driver and at only 28 years of age has already achieved an extraordinary number of podium finishes, individual race and championship round wins. Todd is a great fit for the Jack Daniel’s brand and will be a fantastic ambassador, actively supporting our responsibility stance, ‘Pace Yourself. Please Drink Responsibly’.”

“This development is also a clear demonstration of our support and commitment to continue building Jack Daniel’s through our association with V8 Supercars. This association has yielded enormous benefit via the emotional connections we build with our consumers.”

An Honest Farewell!

Australians voted long-time Prime Minister, John Howard, out of office last weekend, installing Kevin Rudd in his place.

Here, in “his” first televised address since the demise of his 11-year government, he expresses his thanks to the Australian people.

New Government – Still No Clue

Australia voted for a change of government last weekend. Personally, I’m still undecided whether the change will be for the good, or for the bad. There is however, one thing I am still certain of.

Politicians still have no idea about the internet. No matter what their persuasion.

Both major parties promised big spending on infrastructure to increase broadband speeds to consumers in this country, with all sorts of fancy announcements about fibre-to-the-node networks, and WiMAX towers.

But they still don’t get it – it’s the backhaul network that needs to be DRASTICALLY improved, or faster speeds to the node or to the kerb, are completely pointless.

Swerving In Front Of Truck Is Bad!

Just ask the driver of this truck, and engineers from the Holden Racing Team, and Ford Performance Racing. This shot was taken on the highway outside of the Bahrain circuit where the V8 Supercars have raced this weekend.

Apparently, a car swerved in front of the truck, which was forced to brake suddenly, with the result evident.

All four cars were damaged, with the “upper” cars hitting each other, and the “lower” cars hitting each other. The FPR cars at the rear then fell off the truck.

Not the best way to start your race meeting!

Career Option?

With the upcoming federal election on November 24, Australia will either return John Howard to The Lodge, or install Kevin Rudd as our newest Prime Minister.

Should Rudd lose the election, it looks as if he might have a ready made career in television.

As has been noted in the past, Rudd has a habit of asking his own questions, so he can give his own answers. This edit of a 7:30 Report interview shows this perfectly!

The End Of 22 Bendigo Street, Richmond

In the history of television in Melbourne, the address “22 Bendigo Street, Richmond, 3121”, is famous. It has been the location of GTV9 since it started in 1956. But now, after 51 years, the era is drawing to a close.

The studios where famous shows like “In Melbourne Tonight”, “Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday”, “Sale of the Century”, and many others will be sold, along with TCN9’s studios in Sydney, as the network moves to modern digital facilities.

Progress is progress I guess, but it’s a shame that the famous old sauce factory will no longer be a part of Australia’s television scene.

How Freaky Is Chris Crocker Really?

Everyone – and if you haven’t, you’re living on Mars – has seen Chris Crocker’s “Leave Britney Alone” video on YouTube. Almost 10 million views of this video have been recorded since it was first posted.

Whether you thought Chris was freaky or not when you saw it, his “freakiness probability” went up significantly after this interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Controlled Tyre

Some years ago, Australia’s V8 Supercar Championship changed to a “control tyre” – that being that every competitor runs on the exact same tyre – manufacturer, compound, construction, etc. The theory is that “well off” teams can’t exploit their wealth with special deals with tyre companies to gain an advantage over everyone else.

On this particular day, at the now defunct Canberra 400, Marcos Ambrose didn’t have a “control tyre” issue – more, he had a “controlled tyre” issue.
