Who Can Count To Three?

Former Hogans Heroes star, Richard Dawson (who played Newkirk), is remembered also as the host of America’s Family Feud. In this particular episode, we find possibly the dumbest family of contestants ever.

The questions are not hard – in fact, they are simple – but that doesn’t stop this family from making a fool of themselves, and giving Dawson good material to work with!

One Last Memory

Essendon champion James Hird retired from the AFL last weekend. Hoping for a fairytale win as a send off, things didn’t look good at three-quarter time when the Bombers were down to the Eagles by 50 points.

At the huddle, Hird pleaded to the players for “one last memory” before he retired.

The players, and in particular, Scott Lucas, responded. And although they didn’t win in the end, they got within 2 points – and fulfilled Hird’s wish for an afternoon to remember.

Beating The Old Enemy

There is almost nothing more important for an Essendon fan, than for the Bombers to beat Carlton at every possible opportunity.

After losing to the Blues in dramatic circumstances earlier in the season, the Bombers were out to make sure the same did not happen again – and so it eventuated – with Essendon running out 10 point winners.

Watch for Matthew Lloyd’s spectacular back-kick goal about halfway through the video.

Larrikin Larry Wins Bathurst

Another one from the archives, with Australian racing legend Larry Perkins winning the 1993 Tooheys 1000, along with the late, Gregg Hansford.

As a Perkins fan, it was a great weekend for me – the #11 Castrol Commodore was the fastest car in almost every practice and qualifying session, took pole position in the shootout, and was at or near the front for the entire 1000 kilometres.

It was also great to see Gregg Hansford, who’d got so close to winning a number of times, finally win the big race. Gregg passed away in a racing accident 18 months later.

Dick Johnson Spreads His Wings

Australian Marcos Ambrose is currently making something of a name for himself in the NASCAR Busch Series. However, while he’s the first Australian to get a full time ride in any of the NASCAR series, he’s certainly not the first to have a go “stateside”.

Both Allan Grice and Dick Johnson dabbled on NASCAR front in the late 1980’s. Here’s a classic piece of footage of Dick from a Winston Cup race at Sears Point in 1989.

I particular love Dick’s reaction in-car right at the end of the video, reacting to his realisation he’s about to have big shunt.

Sheedy’s Reign Comes To An End

After 27 years at the helm of the mighty Essendon Football Club, it was announced today that the club would not be renewing Kevin Sheedy’s contract when it expires at the end of the season.

“They’ve been absolutely fantastic as a club. You don’t often get to coach the club that you barrack for – I’ve been very lucky like that”, said Sheedy speaking at a packed media conference.

Chief Executive Officer, Peter Jackson, re-iterated the immense contribution Sheedy has made to the club. “It’s been a very difficult decision, its been a challenging decision,” he said. “He has had the most profound effect on the football club.”

Do Spiders Get The Munchies?

Have just come across this video on YouTube. Now, it’s difficult to understand the motivation behind wanting to produce such a video, but I think the results speak for themselves.

A Canadian study into the effects of alcohol, THC, crack cocaine, and caffeine on the common wood spider has shown that just as in human society, spiders on drugs cause social consequences in their world too.

All that now remains is for the development of “spider bling”, and “tracksuits with 8 legs”.

Who Needs The Kwik-E-Mart?

The Simpsons movie is out in a couple of weeks, and the promotional bandwagon is in full swing.

This 7-Eleven in Seattle, Washington has gotten into the spirit of things, and re-branded itself as a “Kwik-E-Mart”, the legendary convenience store run by Apu Nahasapeemapetilon in the show.

Complete with Squishee machine, and Buzz Cola, it’s a fair effort!

The First Saviour Of The Screens

The much-loved and much-missed TechTV didn’t feature on Australian screens for a long period. No sooner had it hit our screens, after many requests to subscription television providers in Australia, than it disappeared just as quickly, thanks to the buyout by G4.

Of course, the early shows never were seen over here, but here’s a snippet from an early episode of “The Screen Savers”, TechTV’s flagship program.

You’ll see a very different looking Leo Laporte, now the Chief TWiT!

Agro-pedia

I love Wikipedia. The ability of the internet community as a whole to develop such an extensive knowledgebase on just about anything – (and everything!) – is something to behold.

But of course, like any community, it can breed people with petty motives, and childish ideas on what a community really is.

Here’s a funny article – actually from Wikipedia – talking about some of the more famous “squabbles” over what content should and should not be in various entries.
