Tubes Unblocked

Well, everything seems to be back up and running 100%. There was some bizarre name resolution SNAFU after the re-delegation of my domain to new name servers yesterday.

Special thanks to Paul and the guys at Kilbot for their tireless efforts to get it all sorted out, and I recommend them for anyone looking for a hosting provider.

Tubes Blocked

If you find a few broken things on my site this morning, it’s because my “now previous” name services provider broke three of my four domain names overnight. I’ve re-delegated them this morning, but it might take some time for things to propagate fully around the internet, giving a few odd results until such time.

NBN: Sydney Being Petty

With the initial foundation steps of the NBN now starting to happen, competition is heating up between Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney as to which city will host the network’s headquarters.

But why does this need to get into a petty Melbourne versus Sydney argument? I quote:

“Sydney’s track record of delivering big projects is a clear advantage over other cities – we delivered the Olympics, not the Commonwealth Games.”

Oh please! That’s just childish – the Olympics was one event NINE years ago, and has nothing to do with the ability or otherwise to run a national network!

Newspaper Fail

So the Geelong Advertiser is showing a live feed of the Geelong Business Excellence Awards?

I don’t think the Geelong Advertiser are going to win this year!

Riewoldt is Next Top Model

Is Nick Riewoldt America’s Next Top Model? Perhaps not – but Cycle 12 of the show, recently launched on FOX8, introduces us to Celia.

Are she and Riewoldt the same person? You be the judge. I think it might just be the eyebrows.

Dumb Comment of the Day Award

Honestly, some people either don’t think before they write, or they are so clueless about what they are attempting to write about, that they make themselves look extremely foolish. Take, for example, the following article:

I mean seriously, and I quote:

When a political leader in the old Soviet Union fell out of favor, he would just … disappear. All signs of his name and image would be erased from public view and the non-person himself would never again be seen amongst the country’s leaders standing atop Lenin’s Tomb in Red Square.

That’s the way it is for Windows Vista at this week’s Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans. It’s clear that Microsoft has already moved on to Windows 7 and Vista is like a failed marriage that a divorcee has long since left behind.

Well, duh! Why would Microsoft front up at their Worldwide Partner Conference, and then try and drum up sales for Windows Vista, with Windows 7 just around the corner? They SHOULD be there with Windows 7.

With the newest version of Windows due in October, nobody is going to be buying any Windows licences in any great volume until then, so why should they waste an opportunity like WPC to get Windows 7 in front of people?

My god.

Windows 7 Approaches

There’s been a lot of talk since the release of Windows Vista at the start of 2007, and just how “bad” it is. Many of the people spreading “the word” of just how good it supposedly wasn’t were found out to have never tried it – even to the point where Microsoft performed a market study, and tested a group of people who “didn’t like” Vista, with a “new, upcoming” version of Windows. The study showed that almost all of them loved this new version.

It was actually Vista they were using – proving that Vista’s problems were largely perception, rather than based in any technical understanding. I’ve never struck any major issues in running Vista.

While Vista does – (as does any operating system) – have it’s problems, they certainly are not significant to almost all users. The final release of Vista to market was, admittedly, somewhat rushed, and many of the features initially slated for inclusion with Vista were dropped months before the launch. Some of the things that made it in, lacked some “polish”.

Enter Windows 7 – (oddly enough, it’s official version is 6.1, but that’s a whole different story) – which is proving to be what Vista should have been. Vista with the polish added. I’ve been participating in the Beta program, and running a number of different pre-release versions for some months. I’ve yet to strike a problem while using it.

It’s smooth. It’s fast. And it’s released in October. Check out the Microsoft site above for more information, but from my perspective, Windows 7 is a very special version of Windows – quite possibly the best ever.

Generally speaking, I’m a Linux user – but Microsoft has done a great deal to drastically improve their flagship product. And it wasn’t that bad to begin with.

Slow The Hell Down

So, Victoria is getting more speed and red-light cameras? Good. Naturally, however, the “great non-thinkers” are trying to label it as “revenue raising” and “secret taxation”. Bah!

Here’s a tip for you folks – don’t speed, and don’t go through red lights, and you won’t have to pay a cent!

Sofa King Beauty

I always find it humourous when sports broadcasters, particularly in motor sports, listen in on team radio conversations, and put them to air.

They run the risk of “special words” getting to air. In this instance, an ecstatic Mark Webber celebrates with his team over the radio after his maiden Formula One win last night in Germany.

Giggle factor aside, it’s awesome to see an Aussie once again win an F1 Grand Prix – a break of almost 28 years since this was last achieved by Alan Jones in Las Vegas in 1981.
